Is McCheater a Mindreader, or is Rick Warren a Purpose Driven Liar? Hotlist

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 10:41:20 AM PDT

Yes - I'm calling out Pastor Rick Warren.  Because last night, on Larry King Live, Warren dismissed as "bogus"  concerns about McCain having prior knowledge of specific questions.  He asserted that there's no chance that McCain could have gotten questions during his drive to the forum because "the  Secret Service would have reported it". Why are Warren and many in the media assiduously ignoring very clear evidence that John McCain knew at least one of the questions ahead of time?  Do they expect us to believe them or should we believe our lying eyes?

h/t to jbalazs for the excellent video

Let's make it viral.

Archive of a dkos Trainwreck - just gimme some truth

Tue Aug 12, 2008 at 02:44:32 PM PDT

I certainly don't want to see this diary on the rec list.  I post it to keep a record of a diary which was just deleted, and another diary that may be deleted soon.  The deleted diary garnered 639 recommendations and is still on the limited rec list - and that's a cryin' shame.  When inconsistencies in the diary were pointed out, the diarist deleted rather than editing the diary to explain glaring, factual contradictions between the highly rec'ed diary & one that he had published last month.  [Update: He later returned and discussed what had happened with numerous members of the dkos community.]  I added bold to emphasize some of the contradictions, and hope to return later to work on it some more.

Please Don't Recommend This Diary

The archive of those diaries has been moved to comments - links below the jump.

Republican indicted for rape of minor

Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 03:56:04 PM PDT

Today a Missouri grand jury indicted Republican State Representative Scott Muschany for raping a fourteen year old girl in May of this year.  The child is the daughter of a Missouri State employee with whom the married Muschany was "romantically involved".

According to the article in today's St. Louis Post Dispatch, the child's mother witnessed the assault.

The child's parents are estranged, and the father is suing for custody of his daughter.

The girl’s father told the Post-Dispatch that his daughter told a sibling about the alleged assault a few days after it happened, and the sibling told the father on May 26, the father said. He called the child abuse hotline the next day.

...

The girl’s 17-year-old brother told the Post-Dispatch his mother told him she has known Muschany for about two years and that they had been seeing each other romantically for about a year.

This isn't just another Republican "sex scandal" - it's the forcible rape of a child, which the mother witnessed but did not bother to report to the police.

Clinton 527 Rolls Out Oregon Ad

Thu May 15, 2008 at 12:41:31 PM PDT

Let's be clear: when a 527 forms for the express purpose of electing or defeating a particular federal candidate, and engages in public advocacy towards such ends -- as opposed to discussing issues -- it is breaking the law.

Kentucky Lt. Gov. Endorses Obama

Sun May 11, 2008 at 03:34:43 PM PDT

The endorsements just keep on coming - late this afternoon former Kentucky State Senator and current Lt. Governor Dan Mongiardo endorsed Barack Obama.

Kentucky's Democratic Governor (& superdelegate) Steve Beshear  is still uncommitted and says he will not indicate his choice for Democratic presidential nominee until after the May 20th Kentucky primary.

Hillary Clinton was NOT caught fibbing about Passover, NC debate......as far as I know

Sat Apr 19, 2008 at 06:13:04 PM PDT

As far as I know Hillary Clinton was not caught fibbing about her reason for declining an invitation to participate in a debate proposed for the beginning of Passover, and it pains me to see that a diary proclaiming that HRC was "caught" in such a "fib" has been sitting on the rec list.  Hey, people.  I thought we were smarter than this.  I thought that manufactured distractions had been put "on notice"

Here's a key part of the news report on which that diary is based:

Clinton didn't agree to the date, noting that night is the beginning of the Passover observance among Jewish people.

Basketball Diary - Will Obama Be the First Hoopster in the WhiteHouse?

Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 01:10:29 PM PDT

Yes he will

I kept waiting for an open thread to post this video of Bryant Gumbel interviewing Barack Obama about basketball.  I waited & waited & finally decided that the fourteen minute video, The Audacity of Hoops which recently aired on HBO's Real Sports is wonderful enough to merit a diary.

Enjoy!

Hear Amy Klobuchar talk about endorsing Obama | Nashville Mayor voted for Obama

Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 11:57:11 AM PDT

Not much of a visual here, folks.  But it's really a treat to listen to freshman Senator Amy Klobuchar speak at length about her endorsement of Barack Obama:  The recording of today's press conference call lasts for just under a half hour:

"Between Barack and a hard place, I chose Barack...The 'hard place' is a reference to being uncommitted"

— Amy Klobuchar

Why Sheldon Whitehouse Supports Telecom Immunity

Tue Dec 18, 2007 at 01:56:17 PM PDT

It would be difficult to find a dkoser who would not agree that Sheldon Whitehouse - our new Democratic Senator from Rhode Island - has distinguished himself as a remarkably brilliant, valuable and persuasive member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Yesterday, when he took to the floor of the Senate he made fine points about the importance of protecting the privacy rights of American citizens travelling abroad.  But then he departed from his prepared remarks and argued for the Intelligence Committee version of the FISA legislation - the version that provides retroactive immunity for the telelcoms.

I'm not saying that I agree with him.  I just think that it's useful to review his reasoning, because we all know that this fight is far from over.

Ted Kennedy's Superb FISA Speech

Mon Dec 17, 2007 at 07:22:26 PM PDT

Today was a great day to be a Democrat.  Especially after witnessing a year of spineless capitulation and relentless insults to our collective intelligence.  Today Edward Kennedy lit up the Senate floor with brilliant oratory, and made a case that no one could deny about why retroactive immunity for the telecoms must be rejected.

The President has said that American lives will be sacrificed if Congress does not change FISA. But he has also said that he will veto any FISA bill that does not grant retro-active immunity. No immunity, no FISA bill. So if we take the President at his word, he's willing to let Americans die to protect the phone companies.

Restore my F*#king Diary watchlist, ct!

Mon Dec 10, 2007 at 01:09:11 PM PDT

Update: THANKS, ct!  for restoring our Diary watchlists.

Tuesday Mornig Update: My Diary Watch List has been wiped clean. (not by me)  It looks like I'll have to start fresh.

I just thought I'd throw this diary together to see if anyone else is having trouble accessing their Diary "watchist".

Mine seems to be wiped clean.  It's way too long anyway - but I suppose that I would prefer not to have to start from scratch.

Anyway - I did attempt to try to start a new hot list - but when I selected "subscribe" for one of my favorite diarists, "permission denied" popped on the screen & I was automatically logged out.

Is ct messing with us?  What gives?

Update: my hot list has been restored!  yeah! should I delete this diary, or do folks want a place to talk meta & pimp diaires?

Diane Watson: I'm all for impeachment this moment

Mon Oct 15, 2007 at 11:38:03 PM PDT

At a Saturday, October 14, 2007 Town Hall meeting in Southern California, Representative Diane Watson (CA-33) responded to a constituent question about impeachment.  Watson brought up numbers to illustrate her point, but was clearly ill-prepared to use the numbers effectively because she got them wrong.   Even though she got the numbers wrong, I think she believes that the Dems don't have the numbers to pull an impeachment move off.  I don't doubt her sicerety when she says, "I'm all for impeachment this moment."

The video begins with a statement/queston that lasts for a little over two minutes.  There's a lengthy, informative set-up that flows into a question about whether the Democratic Congresswoman would be willing to sign on to H. Res. 333.  Representative Watson's reply begins about two minutes and five seconds into the video:

AG2 is about to give his last speech as Attorney General.  It will be broadcast live on CSPAN in moments.  I was surprised not to see a diary about this so I'm offering this diary for live blogging.
